What I learnt this week: Scale Maps

A scale map is a map with a scale. A scale is something that you can use to compare distances. Here is a scale.
This scale is telling me 5 cm on the map is 1 kilometre in real life.

Cyber Bullying

This week I have been learning about cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is where somebody says mean things online, or posts embarrassing pictures or videos without permission from the person, and it keeps happening again and again. I have learnt about these definitions.

Target: The person being bullied.

Bully: The person bullying.

Upstander: The person that stands up for the Target.

Bystander: The person who does nothing while the bullying is happening.

Len Lye

The trip to Len Lye was amazingly fantastic. The entrance ceiling is 50 feet high. How do they fit the lights it?
My favourite piece of art was the Universe. It was a big stainless steel loop with a ball hanging from the roof above it. When the electromagnets inside the bench it was on turned on it swayed from side to side and looked like was coming off the bench, but it just stayed on and made a cool noise like an infinite emptiness echo.
Len Lye created amazing 3D sculptures to crazy music, weird films to great drawings. My sister thinks it was boring, but I think he was the greatest artist ever.

St Patrick and the Snakes

St Patrick and the Snakes

St Patrick was an incredible Irish man, famous for driving snakes out of Ireland. My Doodle is based on his bravery and kindness to the people of Ireland.

Remainders

This week I have been learning about remainder with division. Remainders are what are left from a question. Eg- 19 / 2 = 19 - 1 = 18 / 2 = 9r1

NYLD 2015

What did you think of NYLD 2015. Give your opinion and reasons why you hold these opinions (at least 4 sentences).

It wasn’t that nice at the start of the day because we had to get to school at 5:00 and the bus ride was 3 and a half hours to get there, not including the toilet stops. It also was really annoying how some school got an AMAZING picture from a speaker because of how long they travelled, but they were closer to NYLD then us. It was a great experience for all the  year 6s because we got to listen to all the AMAZING speakers. All the speakers had their own story, which was better than all the stories the same.

Who was your favourite speaker and why? (Describe in at least 4 sentences).Image result for chris jupp

My favourite speaker was Chris Jupp. He thought only of himself when he joined the 2011 40 Hour Famine because he wouldn’t have to go to school. But then he looked at a video about kids in Mongolia and how they starved, so he did it for the kids and was made the leader of the 40 Hour Famine at his college. He was a man who gave up stuff for other people.

What have you learnt about being a leader? (At least 4 sentences).

Don't give up because you'll never achieve anything if you give up. Leadership is not about you being the leader, but the people around you. There is no I in team. If you say you're the best, you're not the best because you BRAG.

How could you use this learning here at school? (At least 4 sentences)

I could use this to help people out around the school. I could stop people doing the wrong thing. I could use it at road patrol. And I will.

Action points - something I am going to work on (a goal) from NYLD:using integrity more often

My favourite quotes were (remember to say who said them):we can change the world.

Math COPE

This week I have been doing well with my math because I can now convert improper fractions to mixed number and vice versa because of Khan Academy. I should of been open minded to textbook work because that way I would of been able to understand my other learning goals in math. I had an honest chat with Mr A about not doing textbook work and I must do it from now on because otherwise I won't be able to achieve my learning goal properly.

Here is an example of my learning goal. 1 1/4 = 5/4 because 1x4=4+1=5 so that makes 5/4
